ICDL - WHAT IS IT?

The ICDL is an end-user standard out-and-out. No programming is taught. However, obtaining the ICDL is not trivial. The student has to pass in each of seven modules, and the level of competence expected is very high. To obtain the ICDL a student must demonstrate practical proficiency in each of the most commonly used software tools. The student has to pass all seven modules at a very high level - in some cases as high as 90%. The standards for the ICDL have been set jointly by the major European Computer Societies. In Europe it is known as the European Computer Driving Licence. The ICDL is the only European Community recognized IT qualification at present.

Do I need to have an ICDL skills card for me to be able to sit for an ICDL exam?

Yes - The ICDL Syllabus requires that every candidate (student) entering the scheme must have a skills card. The skills card can be obtained from IAT. This is kept up to date by us. This is a card with space for the student's personal details (including ID number) and a block for each of the seven modules.
